NASA is testing its drone traffic control system in Reno, Nevada in a new push to bring package delivery, emergency medicine and more. The system would help drones communicate with each other to navigate cities and neighborhoods, and will be tested in Reno through July 2019.

What is the Drone Traffic Control System?

NASA’s  drone traffic control system creates ‘corridors’ for the drones above the city. The drones will also communicate with each other to fly safely.

The NASA test hopes to find ways to allow thousands of drones to operate in urban areas.

Dr. Chris Walach, The Executive Director of NIAS, talks about the various technologies NIAS is testing and how they are unlike any other.
