Michael Couch, MSc joins NIAS as a former public servant with the Government of Alberta, with whom Nevada shares a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in technology collaboration and trade in unmanned systems. Prior to NIAS, Michael spent several years as a Senior Trade and Investment Officer with Alberta’s Ministry of Economic Development and Trade, where his primary focus was leading international trade and investment attraction initiatives within the Americas on behalf of Alberta to help grow and diversify its aerospace and defense sector and unmanned systems sub-sector. Michael is also passionate about Asia-Pacific markets and has a deep understanding of the Japanese language and culture, having spent the better part of a decade between Japan and North America – first, working for a traditional Japanese automotive manufacturer and second, pursuing his Master’s degree in Energy Science (Economics laboratory) at Kyoto University. Michael’s skill set compliments his expertise in business and economic development with over a decade of experience in research, coordination and policy analysis, reviewing complex government regulatory processes, and project management and delivery of complex international initiatives.
