FAA Documentation & Reporting
NIAS uses several authorizations to achieve flight in Nevada and throughout the U.S. These include:
- LOA: Letter of Authorization – Developed at the local Airport Authority and approved by the FAA
- COA: Certificate of Authorization – Public aircraft may be flown using a COA
- SAC: Special Airworthiness Certificate – Civil aircraft may be flown using a SAC or Special Flight Permit
- RA: Special Use Airspace – Does not require a COA or SAC, Nevada can conduct operations at the Nevada National Security Site under the Department of Energy Work for Others program, Parts of the Nellis Test and Training Range may be used on a scheduled, non-interference basis since the NTTR is a Major Range and Test Facility Base (MRTFB)
